BIRMINGHAM PLATINUM JUBILEE FESTIVAL 2022 IS DELIGHTED TO BE WORKING WITH CITY OF BIRMINGHAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (CBSo)

On Saturday 4th June 2022, a new platinum jubilee anthem will be world premiered at a dedicated special event inside Birmingham Symphony Hall, sung by a mass choir of school children and young people from across the West Midlands, accompanied by the CBSO and conducted by Chorus Director Simon Halsey CBE. The winner will receive an award from John Crabtree OBE, Lord-lieutenant of the West Midlands in recognition of their outstanding work.

The piece has been composed by Oliver Hayne (21) a composition student from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire who won a regional wide competition chaired by Master of the Queen’s Music, Judith Weir CBE. Words have been penned by Birmingham’s Outstanding Young Poet Laureate, Fatma Mohiuddin. On Sunday 5th June at 4:30pm a screening of the world premiere will be showcased in Victoria Square.

HOMELESS LUNCH

Birmingham Platinum Jubilee Celebrations are pleased to be able to make provision to feed the homeless during a time when we are all celebrating. We aimed to somehow include those who are in need and without a home and living on the street We reached out to two exceptional providers of a service that will enable homeless people to be fed in several locations; we are directing funds to both organisations to enable this.

Let’s Feed Brum is a volunteer-led charity that provides food, drink, essential supplies and friendship to those living on the streets of Birmingham. We partner with other charities and organisations to help people get the support needed to start looking to the future.

Midland Langar Seva are an organisation that strives to help those in need around the UK. MLSS operates on Sikh based ethos, where we help and support all people regardless of social status.

As part of Birmingham Platinum Jubilee Celebrations and the Jubilee Big Lunch, we are delighted to of received a donation of £5000 from New Roots and have entered into a partnership with Midland Langar Seva Society,  Lets Feed Brum and Birmingham cathedral to provide food from these partners to the homeless

Midland langar seva society

Midland Langar Seva Society will be providing meals at Carrs Lane, Birmingham, B4 7SX and will be serving around 350 people the following menu.

✓ Chickpea Curry

✓ Rice

✓ Salad

✓ Samosa 

✓ Bhaji

✓ Traditional Indian Rice Pudding

They are also providing goodie bags to each homeless person. Which consists of;

✓ Sandwiches

✓ Crisps 

✓ Fruit

✓ Chocolate Bar

✓ Water

✓ Toiletries which include Toothbrush & Toothpaste

They will also be providing a dental van for anyone who wishes to use it.

birmingham cathederal & lets feed brum

Lets Feed Brum will be providing a BBQ hosted by Hogroast Birmingham at Birmingham Cathederal, Cathederal Square, Colmore Row, B3 2QB, and will be serving around 150 people.

Serving food from 1pm-3pm in the Cathedral Garden.

Platinum Jubilee Beacons

The United Kingdom’s long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees Wedding & Coronations with the lighting of beacons will be continued to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Over 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Overseas Territories.

On behalf of the Lord Mayor Parlour and Birmingham City Centre, Birmingham Platinum jubilee Celebration will light it’s beacon at 9:45pm in Victoria Square, accompanied by the Birmingham City Council Choir.

Beacon Lighting 8pm-10pm

The service will include music from the Coronation, such as Parry’s ‘I was glad’ and the Vaughan-Williams arrangement of the paraphrase. ‘All people that are on earth do dwell’. The Lord Lieutenant, the High Sheriff and the Lord major have been invited and the guest preacher invited for the day is the domestic Chaplain to HM The Queen at Windsor, Canon Martin Ploe.

Standards from the Royal British Legion will be on parade and musicians. from St Mary’s School will be adding to the sense of celebration on the day.

EXHIBITION

See the stunning outdoor photography exhibition, Celebrating Britain - 70 Amazing Years, showcasing seven decades of achievement throughout Queen Elizabeth’s reign.
Her Majesty the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, becoming not only Britain’s longest serving monarch but also the longest-reigning living monarch in the world.

Since February 6th, 1952, when Princess Elizabeth acceded to the throne to become Queen Elizabeth II, this country has celebrated a huge number of achievements, many of which will be on display during Celebrating Britain.
The exhibition will be displayed on large-format panels alongside the Town Hall featuring more than 60 images and is brought to you by one of our event sponsors, Central BID. It is accessible 24 hours a day as part of the celebration event in Victoria Square.

The diverse collection of images has been curated by street gallery experts Wecommunic8 and sourced from the extensive MirrorPix archives. Each display panel features stories, key dates and background information about each of the photographs with fascinating facts. Visitors will see royal occasions, sporting successes, world-famous inventions and landmark moments.
